Four athletes from Scotland have been selected for the Great Britain basketball squads and have travelled to Abu Dhabi to compete in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games.
Ashley Fleming, Leanne Woolfe, Justine Kerr and Samuel Scott, who all play with Glasgow Eagles, will be part of more than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries who are competing at the Games. The event also sees 2,500 coaches and 20,000 volunteers help to operate the fist Special Olympics World Games in the Middle East/north Arica region.
Alec Watt, Chairperson at Glasgow Eagles, is delighted to see the players competing at the highest level:
“It’s brilliant that our young basketball players have been picked to represent Great Britain at the Special Olympics World Games. This is testimony to their hard work, development, focus, commitment, discipline, enthusiasm, teamwork, positive attitude and commitment to training with the Eagles 50 weeks of the year. They’re part of a group of over 30 young people Eagles have at this age level and they all have an incredible level of commitment to the sport.”
The games are taking place between the 14th to 21st of March and more information is available through the competitions website: www.abudhabi2019.org
