Level 1 Table Official Course

Description – Introduction to Table Officiating. Candidates will learn the basic elements being a Table Official which will include principles of the game, scoring, and time-keeping. 

Pre-requisite – No pre-requisite to the Level 1 course

Cost – £10 per candidate

  • The tutor-led course will take 3 hours to deliver.
  • Minimum number of candidates – 10. Maximum – 16.
  • Projector screen should be available at venue.

Level 2 Table Official Course

Description – The course is designed for experienced Level 1 Table Officials. The course will teach further detail for scorer and time-keeping and will also teach the 24 second shot clock.

Pre-requisite – The candidate should hold a Level 1 Table Official Award.

Cost - £30 per candidate

  • The course will take 3 hours to deliver.
  • Minimum number of candidates – 8. Maximum – 16.

Level 3 Table Official Course

Club/School Referee Award

Description – This award is designed for introducing candidates to refereeing at a basic level. Candidates will be taught some basic mechanics, rules and signals and a large part of the course will focus on how to communicate as a referee and manage a game. Candidates will receive a whistle and basketballscotland t-shirt.


Pre-requisite – No pre-requisite to the Club/School Referee Award

Cost - £30 per candidate

  • The course will take 6 hours to deliver. 3 hours in a classroom and 3 hours on court.
  • Minimum number of candidates – 10. Maximum – 16.
  • Projector screen should be available at venue.

Level 1 Referee Course 

Description – The Level 1 Referee course is designed for candidates who have a basic understanding of playing or refereeing basketball. Candidates will learn more detailed rules of the game, signals, mechanics, communication and managing a game. Candidates will receive a whistle and basketballscotland t-shirt.


Pre-requisite – No pre-requisite however some knowledge of the rules of basketball would be beneficial.

Cost - £75 per candidate

  • The course will be delivered over 2 days and will include 3 hours of theory, the rest will be practical refereeing of games.
  • Minimum number of candidates – 10. Maximum – 16.
  • Projector screen should be available at venue.
