Scottish Sports Futures Are Recruiting Jump2it Coaches

Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) are currently recruiting new sessional basketball coaches and roadshow coordinators to join their exciting and vibrant team. These coaches would help deliver the highly successful Jump2it programme whilst also supporting the Rocks Community Clubs throughout Glasgow.

Jump2it uses the sport of basketball to give young people the information they require to make positive lifestyle decisions. These messages are delivered to primary schools children throughout Scotland by sporting role models, primarily the Glasgow Rocks Pro Basketball Players. This requires a coordinator to drive the players to the school, coordinate the roadshow whilst handing out important data capture forms and collecting all evaluations.

Each school involved in the programme then receives 6 hours of basketball coaching during curriculum time. SSF are currently looking for coaches to help deliver these sessions. These will cover basic basketball techniques whilst incorporating the key lifestyle messages discussed throughout the programme.

Coaches will also have the opportunity to work at large inter-school tournaments where they can assist with the set-up of the tournament and help referee and organise the teams. Coaches will be required to assist a final tournament at the Emirates Arena between the winners of finalists of each tournament. This will involve working during the Glasgow Rocks’ games.

In addition to our school programme, coaches will also have the opportunity to work at our Rocks Community Clubs (RCC). These can mostly be found throughout Glasgow and provide participation in basketball for children in Primary 5-7. These are usually in the form of an afterschool club run during the school year and provide children in the community the opportunity to form their own club with pupils from other schools in the area. Children are also given the opportunity to take part in monthly competitions against other RCCs in the area. This is used as a pathway for players to continue in the sport both competitively and recreationally and also as a link to other clubs supporting the growth of basketball throughout Scotland.

Any interested coaches will require the following as a minimum requirement:

  • UKCC Getting Started in Basketball (can volunteer to gain qualification)
  •  Flexibility to work various hours
  • Any interested coordinators will require the following as a minimum requirement:
  •  A full clean driving license (min 2 years driving experience)
  • Flexibility to work various hours (Tuesday to Thursdays)

All coaches will receive the standard hourly rate of £10 per hour. Coordinators will be paid per roadshow dependant on travel time, distance etc. This job is sessional, and therefore there is no minimum working hours guaranteed every week.
Please note the majority of coaching will take place in within the Glasgow Boundaries. All successful applicants will be subject to a PVG check.

Any interested applicants should send their CV and a covering letter detailing their experience in coaching and their general weekly availability to scott@ssf.org.uk with Coach Recruitment in the subject line. Successful applicants will be required to show 2 references.
