Where to start when employing

You need to register a member of staff with HMRC before their employment commences.

Registration of the employer must take place before payday. The registration can take up to 2 weeks to be updated on the system. At the other end of the timeline, the club can register two months prior to the first pay day.

Not registering a worker or not adhering to other employment rules will have an impact on the club committee. Being unincorporated, the committee will be liable for any regulations not adhered to. The club should consider their legal status prior to registering any worker. Forming a corporated company or registering the club as a charity will significantly reduce the liability of committee members.
