Course Outline

Description: This is a fun and interactive course, designed for those who wish to commit to coaching basketball.  Coaches will begin to reflect on their generic and technical coaching practices and their role in developing players in a competitive environment.

On completion candidates will be able to lead engaging, safe basketball sessions and develop their players through games.  They will also have an awareness of further personal development opportunities in basketball.

Pre-requisites: Candidates must be coaching a basketball team.

Candidates must be 16 years old or above on Day 1 of the course.  They should also hold the Skills Coach award or have previous experience of playing basketball and be able to demonstrate knowledge of coaching practice (APL).

Before coaching, coaches are required to attend a Child Welfare and Protection in Sport workshop or equivalent and we would recommend attending an appointed persons first aid course.

Delivery: The delivery method of this course follows a blended learning approach.  Candidates will complete;

  1. 1.5 hour Online Classroom session
  2. Full day on court 2 (9am – 5pm or 2 evenings)
  3. 1.5 hour Online Classroom session
  4. Full day on court 2 (9am – 5pm or 2 evenings) with assessment included
  5. E-Learning Modules for continued learning
