Dunfermline Reign U16s and Glasgow Rocks Under 18s will both be playing in their respective first divisions next season after coming out on top in the relegation playoffs at St Columba’s last weekend.
In the U16 Leagues, a young Dunfermline Reign side finished 9th in Division One with a record of 4-14, leaving them to face Division Two side Glasgow Rocks, who ended their regular season 9-5. Up one age group, Glasgow Rocks U18s also ended their season 4-14, with Division Two opponents Dundee Madsons finishing their campaign with an impressive record of 11-1.
In the U16 Final, Reign started strongly but Rocks kept in touching distance throughout, with the lead changing hands several times during the game. In the end Reign regained the advantage and held on to secure their Division One status with a 73-71 win.
In the U18 game, Dundee Madsons and Glasgow Rocks were tied 10-10 after Q1, but the Glasgow side scored 19 points in Q2 to open up a 12-point advantage at the break. Madsons scored 19 points themselves in Q3 to close the gap to just five but they couldn’t complete the comeback as Rocks finished strongly to win 54-45 and retain their place in the SBC’s top division.
The games marked the end of the 2018/19 SBC season, with over 1100 games being contested over the last 10 months.
