Scottish basketball coach, Neil Harrow has earned an exciting opportunity. And achieved something no Scot has ever done. Harrow has been named assistant coach for the Los Angeles Sparks in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
Harrow’s appointment to the WNBA continues the progress of Scottish basketball coaches in some of the top leagues. Also in the USA, Donna Finnie continues to hone her skills and build a formidable record as Head Coach with the Houston Christian University Huskies in the NCAA. In addition, Jack Burgess continues his role as assistant coach at Casademont Zaragoza in the ACB in Spain.
Joining Sparks from James Madison University, Harrow is highly regarded after helping the Dukes win its first ever Sun Belt Tournament Championship title last season. Whilst working as Associate Head Coach for the past two season, the Dukes also won the regular season conference championship. In 2023, Harrow also spent time as an advanced scout for the Sparks. His relationship with Sparks Head Coach, Curt Miller goes back to the 2021 – 22 season where Harrow worked as an advanced scout under Miller, at Connecticut Suns.
Since graduating from the University of the West of Scotland, Harrow has constantly evolved as a coach. With an insatiable appetite to learn and improve his coaching craft, Harrow first gained success in the United States as assistant coach at Troy University, guiding the Trojans to three NCAA tournament appearances.
It is truly exciting to have Scottish representation in the coaching ranks of the WNBA and is a credit to the hard work and commitment of Harrow. Head Coach Miller referred to Harrow as “one of the bright starts of our profession.” All in Scotland wish him the very best and will continue to watch his coaching journey with pride and excitement.
