basketballscotland and Caledonia Gladiators Announce Partnership to Grow the Game in Scotland
basketballscotland and the Caledonia Gladiators are excited to announce a partnership aimed at expanding the sport of basketball across Scotland and creating new pathways for talented athletes, coaches and officials. This collaboration will help provide Scottish players with opportunities to progress towards the professional game while allowing further development for coaches and officials.
A key element of the partnership will be future events and initiatives designed to continuously support the growth of coaches and officials. By working together, basketballscotland and the Gladiators aim to raise the profile of basketball in Scotland and inspire the next generation of talent.
basketballscotland is the governing body for the sport in Scotland, and Caledonia Gladiators is Scotland’s professional basketball franchise, with male and female teams playing in Super League Basketball, which is Great Britain’s professional basketball league.
As part of this partnership, the Gladiators recently hosted Scotland’s National U15 and U17 Camps at Playsport, allowing players and coaching staff to interact with professional athletes and role models. After the sessions, the National Squad members stayed to watch the Gladiators games, offering them an inspiring glimpse into the professional level of the sport.
Speaking on the partnership, basketballscotland’s Chair, Stephen Ferguson, commented:
“We’re delighted to announce this agreement between Caledonia Gladiators, as Scotland’s pro basketball franchise, and basketballscotland, the governing body for the sport. Collaboration is the key to basketball in Scotland reaching its potential. This agreement is our joint commitment to long-term collaboration for the good of the game, establishing a strong link between the grassroots game and the professional game, founded upon our shared values. The future for basketball in Scotland has never looked brighter and the foundation more robust. I look forward to this agreement developing over the years to benefit all areas of the game, demonstrating that professional and grassroots sport can work effectively together.”
Tony McDaid, CEO of Caledonia Gladiators, added:
“This partnership is an important step forward for Scottish basketball, bringing together key stakeholders with a shared vision for the future. We are keen to build a basketball nation and grow the game, and through this collaboration, we are creating opportunities for athletes, coaches, and officials to develop. Together, we are committed to inspiring the next generation and helping them reach their potential.”
This is a significant step forward in the mission to grow basketball across the country, creating a collaborative environment that promotes development, inspiration, and opportunity for all involved.
