Wednesday 7th of February saw the launch of Kyle Academy School of Basketball where 13 S1 boys, led by coach Alan Turner and PE teacher Claire Macaulay, were put through their paces under the eyes of key partners including GB and Team Scotland star, Kieron Achara.
The project is the result of an ongoing partnership between Kyle Academy, Ayr Storm and basketballscotland which will hopefully be part of Ayr Storm’s wider club programmes in linking with primary schools within the school’s catchment to offer a solid pathway for basketball for boys and girls. The School of Basketball programme this year will consist of a number of morning sessions, extracurricular training sessions and classroom based personal development sessions facilitated by the school and basketballscotland.
Club Services Manager Jay Runga had this to say about the launch of this project “This is an exciting initiative which we are glad to be part of. This project will really help the club (Ayr Storm) , whom we have been working closely with over the last few years, establish themselves in the area and create more pathways for young people to take up basketball… In terms of the young students involved in the programme, it really is a great opportunity as they will be provided with the environment and structure to be the best they can be while remaining active and healthy. We believe that being involved and committed to sport can have a positive impact on young people’s life skill and studies so it’s a great way to combine both and it’s great that we have been able to get the school’s support to do this.. a huge thanks should go to the school for supporting and helping facilitate this project”.
