The SBC Scottish Cup is nearing its conclusion as the semi-finals have set the stage for an exciting finale. Teams battled fiercely across all categories over the weekend, producing many nail-biting games. With the finals scheduled for February 15th and 16th at Dundee’s Regional Performance Centre, anticipation is building for what promises to be a spectacular conclusion to the tournament.
Senior Men’s Competition
The Senior Men’s semi-finals showcased high-stakes drama. Boroughmuir Blaze edged out City of Edinburgh in a tense 66-63 victory. Blaze’s ability to maintain composure down the stretch helped them secure their finals spot. Meanwhile, Dunfermline Reign secured a 79-60 win at home over Glasgow Devils. This marks their appearance in back-to-back years, although they did not win last year. Can they do it this year?
Senior Women’s Competition
In the Senior Women’s competition, Edinburgh Blaze delivered a strong performance against City of Edinburgh, storming to a 118-44 win. On the other side, Dundee Madsons capitalised on home-court advantage, overcoming Boroughmuir Blaze 60-50. Not only is this the first Senior Women’s Madsons team to reach a final, but it is also the first-ever Madsons team to make it to a final, creating history for the club.
U18 Men’s Competition
Both semi-finals in the U18 Men’s division were tightly contested. St Mirren emerged victorious over Stirling Knights, winning 90-87 in a game that went down to the wire. Meanwhile, Sony Centre Fury displayed defensive brilliance in their 72-59 win over Boroughmuir Blaze, holding their opponents to just six points in the final quarter to secure a commanding finish. Sony Centre Fury won the U18 Men’s Cup last year and are now one step closer to defending their title.
U18 Women’s Competition
Despite a late push by Highland Bears, Gladiators took the victory 68-65 in yet another thrilling semi-final. Boroughmuir Blaze earned their finals place with a strong 73-63 performance against West Lothian Wolves. With neither Gladiators nor Blaze featuring in the U18 Women’s finals last year, this is sure to be an exciting matchup as both strive to be crowned the new U18 SBC Scottish Cup Champions.
U16 Men’s Competition
In the U16 Men’s competition, West Lothian Wolves claimed a 64-55 victory over North Lanarkshire Chiefs, winning the fourth by 9 points to secure their place in the final. St Mirren met Sony Centre Fury in the semi-final, both teams having been in the final last year. This made for a highly anticipated matchup, with St Mirren emerging victorious 80-52. St Mirren claimed the U16 Men’s Cup last year and will be aiming to add another title to their collection.
U16 Women’s Competition
Similar to the U18 Women’s competition, the U16 Women’s final will feature two new competitors compared to last year, as Highland Bears overcame last year’s finalists, Boroughmuir Blaze, 71-60. Meanwhile, St Mirren took the victory over West Lothian Wolves 78-59 with an impressive all-round performance.
