The Scotland U16 Men’s National Squad has today been announced ahead of the Copenhagen Invitational Tournament later this month.

The tournament, which takes place between the 20th and 23rd of June, is an opportunity for the players to gain valuable experience at an international event ahead of the FIBA European Championships in July. Tirana is the tournament’s location, with games set to be played between July 14th-21st. Scotland have been drawn into group B alongside Albania, Luxembourg, San Marino and Moldova.

Head Coach Darryl Wood was full of praise for every player involved in training camp, admitting the selection process was extremely difficult:

“I would like to thank all the players in the programme for making this decision as difficult as any I have ever had to make before. They have all given everything they could to the programme, it will be disappointing for some but I am confident this will just be a small set back in there basketball development. I hope they continue their journey with us and develop in the remaining training sessions. For the players selected it is exciting news, representing your country is special, very special! I am excited to work with them and the staff going forward into the competition phase of the programme.”

The 12-player squad for the tournament will be flying to Denmark on June 19th. Eight Scottish clubs, plus England’s Bristol Flyers, will be represented by their players at the event.
