The Scotland U16 Men continue to be on a dominant path as they picked up another big 98-48 win over Moldova in the FIBA U16 European Championships Division C.
Euan Birch, Callum Mortimer and Finley Woodward punished the opposition with easy layups, giving them an early 13-1 lead. However, a lack of defence for the last four minutes of the quarter allowed Moldova to bring the game back within one point as Woodward’s latter layup was the only thing giving Scotland the advantage thus far, 17-16.
Going into the second quarter Scotland knew they had to pull their socks up and that’s just what they did as Owen Heddle racked up five points in quick succession and the likes of Kemp, Hencher, Birch, Watson and Woodward kept Scotland ahead by making sure they finished under the basket. Composed free throws from Watson and a big 3-pointer from Birch only extended Scotland’s lead going into the half, 43-31.
Mortimer, Hencher, Woodward and Watson were fairly consistent with their free throws in this quarter. Consistency seemed to be a key theme in this period as the whole team were unbelievably consistent with layups which along with big 3-point shots from Birch and Hencher gave Scotland the monumentally clear advantage, 75-41.
Much like the previous quarter the squad continued to forge ahead by making their layups. William Kemp finished the game off in style with a 3-pointer that secured Scotland’s second massive win in the tournament, 98-48.
Finley Woodward was top scorer of the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile William Kemp had nine steals and four assists.
The Scotland U16 Men are in action again today at 2:15pm against San Marino.
