basketballscotland Confirm Four Teams for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
basketballscotland is delighted to confirm that Scotland will be represented by four teams in the 3×3 basketball competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The confirmation follows the announcement by Commonwealth Games Scotland of the 10 sports that will take part in the multi-sport event. As hosts, Scotland will field men’s and women’s teams in both the running and wheelchair categories.
After coming so close to medals at the 2022 Games, with our Women’s team finishing 5th and our Men’s and Wheelchair Women’s teams both finishing 4th, basketballscotland is optimistic that support from home fans could provide added inspiration to propel our teams onto the podium.
The inclusion of 3×3 basketball in the 2026 Commonwealth Games marks a historic moment for the sport in Scotland, as it will be the first time basketball is featured at a home Games. This presents an exciting opportunity to showcase our athletes on home soil to fans across the nation. Having made its debut at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the addition of the 3×3 format in Glasgow 2026 provides another chance to highlight this fast-paced and increasingly popular style of play.
Kevin Pringle, CEO of basketballscotland, stated:“This is an exciting moment for basketball in Scotland. Not only will the Games provide a platform for our athletes to shine, but it will also inspire the next generation of players and create a lasting legacy for our sport. We are thrilled to be part of a Games that emphasises inclusivity and sustainability, and look forward to showcasing our talent and passion for basketball in front of our home crowd. We are grateful to Commonwealth Games Scotland for appreciating the benefits of including 3×3 basketball as one of the chosen events. We will do all we can to win Scotland’s first ever medal in a team event!”
In the coming months, basketballscotland will work closely with athletes and support staff to prepare for the Games. We will also continue to support our grassroots initiatives, ensuring the excitement generated by Glasgow 2026 filters down to the entire basketball community in Scotland—from local clubs to schools and aspiring athletes.
