basketballscotland are delighted to launch initial details of the organisation’s new Player Development Pathway.
What has happened?
Over the past 12 months, basketballscotland has undertaken a thorough review of our player development model and programmes.
This process has involved consultation with various partners and stakeholders and together we have developed a system to produce more talented basketball players capable of success in Elite High Performance Programmes.
What is changing?
Future Starz will be replaced. Starting in February 2018, our new Junior Regional Academies will be rolled out across four centres: North, East, West and Central.
This programme will be targeted at players born between 1st January 2004 – 31st December 2007. Each Regional Academy will host four squads of 12 players who will each compete for an inter-regional championship.
An example of the squad composition in a Regional Academy is as follows:
West Regional Academy
- Boys Championship Squad
- Girls Championship Squad
- Boys Development Squad
- Girls Development Squad
How can I get involved?
Players will be nominated into each centre by their coaches in their respective clubs based on their exhibited Talent Behaviours as well as their readiness for the programme based on performances in training and in games.
Each centre will then host a ‘Regional Readiness Camp’ (RRC) on the 24/25 February where the coaching staff will verify the nominations made by club coaches.
Following the RRC, players will be fed back to and be transferred into one of the following 3 development opportunities:
- Transferred into Regional Academy Programme
- Transferred into Summer Skills Programme (Details of which to be released in March 2018)
- Transferred into club with clear development plan
When will we find out more information?
Nominations for the RRC will open early in the new year for our Regional Readiness Camps.
More information about the Regional programmes and our new Talent Behaviours will be made available in the coming weeks.
