Whilst the UK’s wheelchair basketball community is still basking in the gold and silver glow of the 2018 World Championships success, Scotland’s Ben Leitch will now look to follow in the foot steps of George Bates and Robyn Love after his selection to the U22 Men’s Team.
The tournament take place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy between 10 September and 15 September as the Rocks Wheelchair star joins Lanre Sowami (Tornados), Callum Doherty (Manchester Mavericks), Oliver Griffith – Salter (CWBA), Will Bonner (Sheffield Steelers), and Conn Nagle (NI Knights).
Head coach for the GB Junior Men’s Team, Scott Wallace commented:
“The GB programme has such a strong pathway of talented young wheelchair basketball players coming through right now; it is great that we are welcoming six new international debutants onto the squad for the forthcoming European Championships.”
Tina Gordon, Disability Talent and Pathways Manager at basketballscotland added:
“This is an outstanding achievement for Ben and is a testament to his worth ethic and drive to always improve. It has already been a brilliant summer for British Wheelchair Basketball and we will be watching Ben’s progress closely over the course of the European Championships!”
