Former Scotland and GB international Ken Johnston is holding a basketball gathering at BT Murrayfield on August 16th for anyone involved withbasketball in the East of Scotland from the 1960s to 1990s.
Ken is well-known and respected in the Scottish basketball community having previously held a number of roles including – but not limited to – Honorary Secretary of the East of Scotland Basketball Association, Chief Executive of the Scottish Basketball Association, member of the FIBA Legal Commission and international Referee.
On the court, Ken represented Scotland 35 times and GB on a further 12 occasions. He was also Manager of the Great Britain Team in 1964 and GB Coach in 1968 and 1972.
The gathering is set to welcome former players, coaches, officials and more for a day of storytelling, memory sharing and socialising. Ken explains that he had multiple reasons for organising the event:
“There were two reasons why I decided to organise the gathering. It is a great opportunity for old friends to get together and reminisce, but I also hope that it will help to revive interest in Scottish basketball from former players.”
Whilst Ken undoubtedly has enough stories to share all day, it is hoped many other former basketballers will join him in sharing their stories at the event. Tickets are available for just £2, which can be ordered online here. BT Murrayfield has ample free parking and is easy to access via public transport.
In the lead up to the event, basketballscotland would like to invite former players, staff and supporters to submit their old images, press cuttings and any memorabilia to display at the event via communications@basketball-scotland.com.
