Senior GB Women’s Head Coach, Miles Thompson, travelled to Scotland recently to run an afternoon’s coaching clinic, for coaches from across Scotland’s six clubs.
Assisted by Scotland U18 Head Coach, Jen Scally, Miles delivered a series of fundamental skills sessions and team focused practices with the Scotland U18 Youth National Squad.
A vastly experienced coach, Miles led the GB Women, which includes Scot Robyn Love, to their highest ever World Championship finish, achieving the Silver medal in Germany last year.
Miles readily praised the enthusiasm of both players and coaches attending the clinic:
“Wheelchair basketball in Scotland is growing in numbers, talent and coaching. Working with the Scottish under 18 group recently I saw a team intent on improving through skill development and hard work. Also impressive was the numbers of Scottish coaches and support staff in attendance. Their inquiries were detailed and intensive. It takes a strong team of folks to run and maintain a vibrant programme. Scottish Wheelchair Basketball ticks all the boxes.”
Tina Gordon, basketballscotland’s Talent & Pathways Manager commented:
“We’re really excited to welcome Miles to Scotland, this has been a truly valuable experience for our grassroots and Scotland Youth Squad coaches to observe Miles coaching practise and ask questions about the game. I know he will have enthused everyone, players & coaches, to go back to their clubs and train even harder, and I look forward to seeing his wisdom being put into practice throughout our clubs in the near future”.
