basketballlscotland is delighted to announce that British Basketball will stage its final two home qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball Men’s World Cup in Glasgow.

The Emirates Arena will stage the games against Estonia on June 29th 2018, while Israel will be the visitors on July 2nd.

The campaign to qualify for China in 2019 will begin at the Leicester Arena when Greece play GB on Friday November 24th.

The decision follows a competitive tender process and following British Basketball’s stated strategy to take more internationals to different parts of the country.

Just over 2 miles from the centre of Glasgow, the Arena is the regular home of the Glasgow Rocks and was a major part of the hugely successful 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The top three from Group H will qualify for next season’s Second Stage of qualifiers. The World Cup itself will be staged in China in 2019.

British Basketball Chief Executive Lisa Wainwright says, “It will be thrilling to see Kieron Achara lead out Great Britain in Glasgow next summer, to complete the first round of World Cup qualification. We hope the Scottish public will come out and support us.”

Alan Milner, Head of Sport at Glasgow Life, said: “We can’t wait to welcome these two games to Glasgow, and we’re looking forward to meeting visitors from across the UK as well as Israel and Estonia.”

“The Emirates Arena already enjoys a successful relationship with basketball fans of the Glasgow Rocks and I’m sure the city will get behind these two home qualifiers next summer.”
