Mark Stevenson Announced as Finalist for Talent Development Coach of the Year at the 2024 UK Coaching Awards
basketballscotland is delighted that Mark Stevenson, Scotland coach and a leading figure in wheelchair basketball in Great Britain, has been named as a finalist for Talent Development Coach of the Year at the 2024 UK Coaching Awards. This honour celebrates Mark’s exceptional contributions to the sport of wheelchair basketball and his dedication to developing talent within it.
The UK Coaching Awards, widely regarded as the pinnacle of recognition for coaches across the UK, shines a spotlight on the work that coaches do at all levels, from grassroots to elite. This year’s event, which follows an inspiring season highlighted by the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, recognises the crucial role that coaches like Mark play within their communities.
Mark commented when asked about his nomination. “I am unbelievably proud to be nominated for the Talent Development Coach of the Year award at the UK Coaching Awards 2024. I see the nomination as recognition of all the work we have done in the pathway, at the National Academy and at club level. Working with young, hard-working athletes and equally hard-working coaches is an absolute joy, and seeing these athletes reach their potential, both on the court and as people, is worth more to me than any personal award.”
Mark’s nomination reflects his commitment to supporting athletes in wheelchair basketball and creating pathways for their growth and success. His leadership and mentorship have been instrumental in guiding players towards their potential, setting an inspiring example within Scottish sport.
Tina Gordon, basketballscotland’s Inclusion Manager, praised Mark’s impact on the sport: “Mark’s dedication to the athletes and his work within wheelchair basketball are truly inspiring. He has a unique ability to connect with players, support their development, and create an environment where everyone feels empowered. We’re incredibly proud to see his hard work recognised on such a national stage.”
The UK Coaching Awards ceremony will be held on December 10th.
