The official match schedule for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (2018) Basketball competition was unveiled yesterday, with Townsville and Cairns to host theopening matches of the tournament on Thursday, 5 April 2018.
Scotland’s Senior Men will feature in the opening game of the Men’s competition at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre when they take on neighbours England on Day 1 of the Games.
Newly appointed Men’s Head Coach, Tony Garbelotto gave his reaction to the schedule and said: “The schedule for the Commonwealth Games was going to be tough regardless but I am happy with the outcome. Without fully knowing the makeup of teams that each nation will send, we know that we still have a great chance to advance to the knockout stages. Playing England first is an exciting prospect for us as a team and indeed for the whole nation who we know will be right behind us.”
At the conclusion of the Pool stage, the top two teams from Pool A will proceed to the semi-finals, whilst the bottom two teams from Pool A will play the top two teams from Pool B in the qualifying finals which will be held in Cairns for the Men on 10 April. The remaining two Pool B teams will be eliminated from the competition.
The winners of the qualifying finals will then advance to the semi-final and medal matches to be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13-15 April.
