Two of Scotland’s top basketball stars are to visit the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh thanks to a new charity partnership.

Current Scotland internationals and Caledonia Pride stars Robyn Lewis and Hannah Peacock will meet children at the hospital thanks to a new link up between the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC), basketballscotland and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The players will have a range of gifts donated by the NBA as part of their launch of the new Jr NBA basketballscotland League on Friday, for the children as well as a host of tickets to give out so that they can watch Robyn, Hannah and the rest of the team strut their stuff on the basketball court for Scotland’s only female professional basketball team.

It is hoped that this will be the start of mutually beneficial partnership that will help raise awareness of the charity’s work with regular visits from players to boost spirits.

Fiona O’Sullivan, Arts Programme Manager for ECHC, said: “We’re all so excited to have Robyn and Hannah come to visit the children on our long-term wards. It’s great for the children to see such an inspirational sportswomen and get the chance to ask her about what she does and her journey to the top. It’s also really great that Basketball Scotland are providing gifts and tickets which are sure to brighten up their day. I’m really excited about the partnership going forward and the brilliant opportunities it presents.”

Robyn and Hannah have represented Great Britain at Under 20s as well as playing for the Scotland Women’s senior team.

It’s hoped that the team’s visit will transform the experience of children in the hospital so that they can be a child first and a patient second.

As Captain of Caledonia Pride, Robyn said: “We’re really excited about this new partnership which gives us the ability to really put a smile of the children’s faces through basketball. We would like to thank the NBA for their generous donation of gifts and tickets to give out on the day. Friday is an exciting day for grassroots basketball in Scotland and we are delighted that Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity can be a part of sharing it with us.”

Robyn and Hannah will visit the Royal Hospital for Sick Children this Friday, September 29 between 10am and 11am.
