Regional Academy accepting nominations
basketballscotland are delighted to announce that the Regional Academy programme is now accepting player nominations. Details of how players can get involved in the programme can be found below:
What is the Regional Academy programme?
The new Regional Academy programme is aimed at supporting individual player development, with a specific focus on a number of key areas of the game. This includes:
- Scoring and finishing
- Physical preparation and recovery
- Fundamental skills: Offence and Defence
- Playing under pressure
Participation in the Regional Academy will also provide players with the opportunity to be selected for the U14 National Academy.
Who is it for?
We are accepting applications for U13 Boys & Girls (Born 2007) and U14 Boys & Girls (Born 2006).
Where is my nearest Regional Academy?
Having established 7 Regional Academies that will play host to the programme, the programme will operate in the following areas:
- Ayrshire
- Central
- East
- Grampian
- Highland
- Tayside and Fife
- West
How much contact time do players get in the Regional Academy?
Each Regional Academy will deliver 8 x 3 hour sessions on court. There will also be 3 National Event days for all participants. All Regional Academies will deliver their own timetable on dates agreed by the Regional Lead, Coaching Staff and Regional Academy Partnership.
How do players get involved?
Players must express their interest in the programme to their Coach. All clubs have been provided with basketballscotland’s talent behaviours video to allow players/parents/clubs to understand these values. Coaching staff must endorse all applications and these should be sent to basketballscotland by noon on Friday 14th February 2020. Endorsed players will then be advised of their inclusion by Friday 21st February 2020. For those not being endorsed by their club coach, we encourage that direct feedback from coach to player. Endorsement forms have already been sent to clubs.
How much does it cost?
The programme costs £130 per player, this includes the 24 hours of Regional Academy training, plus the 3 National Event days. A new addition to the programme this year is the inclusion of a home workout tracker. Players will also receive a Regional Academy t-shirt.
