RGK Wheelchair Festival 2024

On Saturday, 8th June, regional teams from across Scotland travelled to the Dundee International Sports Centre to compete in the ‘RGK Regional Junior Festival’ for what was a fun day of games and socialising. Over 40 young people, aged 6-18 years, took part in some 4v4 and 3×3 games. For some, this was their first experience of competitive wheelchair basketball. The event highlighted a couple of basketballscotland’s values of teamwork and continuous improvement, as players not only enjoyed the competition but also supported each other and honed their skills throughout the day.

Former GB Paralympian and Mobility Advisor, Lee Fawcett, commented, “It was brilliant to attend my 8th Scottish Regional Junior Festival, our partnership with basketballscotland has been fantastic and it’s an event I look forward to every year.  Another successful competition and plenty of smiles on faces – great job to all concerned!”

Tina Gordon, basketballscotland’s Disability Inclusion Manager, echoed the success of the event,

“I love the RGK Regional Junior Festival!.  Seeing so many young people having fun, showing their skills, and trying something new always puts a smile on my face.  The U13s competition was fiercely contested and for many this was their first time of playing wheelchair basketball competitively – it was also their first experience of the 3X3 game.  The U18s are now more experience and starting to take leadership, and officiating responsibilities too, and this is a great event for them to give that a go.  Huge thanks to RGK and Lee Fawcett for their support in enabling this event to happen, and I hope Lee enjoyed spending his Birthday with us!”
