Another Miles

Caledonia Pride welcomed Durham Palatinates to the Crags over the weekend, where the two teams met for the second time this season. Having won the first match up, 60-78, Pride were hoping for a repeat at home. It was a slow opening quarter for Pride and they found themselves trailing 17-8 at the end of the first quarter.  Pride showed excellent character and saw the deficit as a challenge to overcome as the team played with determination, passion and energy to keep themselves in the game. Despite this, Pride couldn’t quite make up for their sluggish opening quarter, as the game ended 56-63 to the visitors. However, it wouldn’t be a Pride game without a milestone being reached. Glasgow Rocks started their weekend looking to grab back–to–back wins over the Worcester Wolves away on Friday night. The game started with the two teams keeping it close throughout the first quarter, with Rocks behind by only 2. However, Wolves started to pull away in the second quarter, to which Rocks could not gather the momentum to keep up. Wolves avenged their defeat last weekend in Glasgow, with the final score 93-74. After missing out on the win in their first game of the weekend, Rocks were determined to get the win in game two, as the team travelled to Bristol to meet the Flyers in an electrifying game. A close first half, with both teams trading baskets, found Rocks ahead of the home team by 1 point as the teams readied up for the second half. However, a tough third quarter for Rocks gave Flyers the opportunity to take advantage and they burst into the lead, leaving Rocks finding themselves facing an 11-point deficit going into the final quarter.  

 

Determined not to give up too easily, Rocks bounced into action in the fourth. With 2 minutes left in the game, player/coach Gareth Murray clutched up with back-to-back threes, bringing the team to within 1 point. The two teams could not be separated, and the game ended 75–75. Despite a strong start by Rocks in overtime, Flyers continued to answer Rocks’ baskets and ultimately walked away with the win, 91-84. Read the full report here.
