Boroughmuir Blaze v St Mirren

Soho Wealth SBC Senior Men

Friday 11th October

Crags Edinburgh

Intro

Game of the Week returns to the Soho Wealth Senior Men’s Division as Boroughmuir Blaze welcome St Mirren to the Crags on Friday night.

St Mirren currently sit 3rd in the division behind unbeaten Fury and Reign, whilst Blaze will hope last week’s Scottish Cup victory over Fury will help to kick start their league campaign.

The teams

Boroughmuir Blaze come into the game on a high after last weekend’s 81-78 win over Sony Centre Fury, where they knocked the Scottish Cup hosts out in the Round of 16. Domestically, Blaze have started 0-2 as their opening day loss to defending Champions Dunfermline Reign was followed up by a 79-62 defeat to Fury.

St Mirren overcame their opening night defeat to Fury with consecutive wins against City of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Lions respectively. The Paisley-based side sit just one point off the pace at the top of the table, whilst also picking up a big 116-43 win over Heriot Watt University in last weekend’s Cup fixture.

From the Coaches

Blaze Head Coach, Simon Turner, is fully aware of the threat St Mirren poses but expects a fun game:

“This is going to be a massive challenge for us. With the new talent St Mirren have added plus their experienced core  they must be favoured to win a bunch of games this season. Our guys have been dedicated to the process of growing together so far this season. Every year brings subtle but important changes to our identity as a team and we’ve worked through some difficult moments to find a spirit that is growing every week. Our Cup win over Fury last Friday was a great game to be a part of and we’re expecting to have a whole lot of fun again this week against a huge opponent.”

St Mirren’s Matt Giroux is looking forward to getting back on the road after three weeks at home:

“After three consecutive home matches the team are ready for a big challenge in Edinburgh against a Boroughmuir side that will surely be on a high after a big win in the Cup against Falkirk. I am also expecting that Simon Turner will, as ever, have his team well prepared for our visit. We continue to work to gel our new additions with existing talent for maximum effect. I am confident that our guys are playing for each other and developing a strong team chemistry that is evident in training. We will be heading east ready for a fight and determined to come away with a win.”
