This week, the SBC Game of the Week team will be travelling to The Crags, Edinburgh to cover Boroughmuir Blaze and Glasgow Storm’s first matchup of the 2017/18 season.
The hosts, Boroughmuir Blaze come into Friday’s game having won their first game of the SBC season, defeating Pleasance BC 93-53 at home in the inaugural game of the season.
As well as playing a couple of preparation games in Manchester, Blaze also played an exhibition game with the Glasgow Rocks on Wednesday night, in which the Rocks came away as the victors after defeating Blaze 113-58.
In the run up to Friday’s game, we caught up with Blaze captain, Eoghann Dover who had the following to say about the season so far and their upcoming fixture with Storm:
“We started the season well with a good win against Pleasance. We have also had some tough pre-season games that have ensured we are ready to challenge for this year’s title. Friday’s game will be fast paced but we will be looking to control the tempo and play our brand of basketball. Storm are a strong side and this will be a really interesting match-up for both teams and I am really looking forward to it”
Blaze Coach, Simon Turner also had this to say about the team’s season so far and the focus going into Friday’s matchup against Storm:
“We’ve had a great experience playing Glasgow Rocks and two games in Manchester in the past week. We’ve learnt more about ourselves and deepened our understanding of areas we need to grow. It’s been a challenging preparation and now we have to refocus for a Storm team that always play hard. They finished last season strong so we’ve got our work cut out.”
Glasgow Storm enter into Friday’s game having lost their one and only game of the season to first place Sony Centre Fury, losing 84-65 in Grangemouth.
“After our poor showing last week against Fury we are looking to be more competitive this week against Blaze,” said Storm Coach, Iain Maclean ahead of the Friday’s fixture, “We have had a difficult pre-season and have lost 4-5 players from our squad from last year for various reasons all of who had a major role last year for us but this creates opportunities and challenges so we have been working hard this week to be better especially in our decision making which will be critical when facing Blaze on their home court on Friday evening – we look forward to the challenge for sure!”
Storm Captain, Calum Bryson also had the following to say about the team going into their game against Blaze:
“As a team, we were able to take a lot of positives away from the game against Fury. We know the potential of our unit, and what we require to do to get there. Friday’s game against Blaze will a good match up for us. Both teams get out in transition and like to move the ball. Playing to our strengths as a team, we are definitely looking for a successful road trip to the capital this Friday night.”
Boroughmuir Blaze will host Glasgow Storm on Friday 15th September at 8:20 PM at The Crags, Edinburgh.
