For the first SBC Game of the Week of the New Year, we will be in Cumbernauld to watch the Lady Rocks play host to the University of Edinburgh Senior Women in a game that will act as a precursor to the Women’s Cup Final at the end of this month.
The hosts, Lady Rocks come into their first game of 2018 in 2nd place in the Women’s Premier Division with a 7-2 record, their only defeats coming at the hands of City of Edinburgh and Sony Centre Fury. Lady Rocks will be looking to maintain the momentum that allowed them to be one of the top teams in the league in 2017 and get the win in front of their home crowd on Friday night.
Although not as fortuitous in the league as they sit in 5th place with a 4-4 record, the visitors, Edinburgh University have put on some strong performances in the Cup which has allowed them to cement their place in the upcoming final. The university side will be looking to come out strong in their first game of 2018 and get the win away from home.
Edinburgh University coach, Jordan Webb had the following to say in the run-up to Friday’s game;
“Our season to this point has been fairly inconsistent with regard to our performance and I think our record reflects that. Of course, inconsistency is expected from a team with such youth but that doesn’t mean it is accepted. Our focus going into this game will be to be the best version of ourselves and to build towards maintaining the level of play we expect from ourselves.”
Lady Rocks will host Edinburgh University on Friday 12th of January at St. Maurice’s high school in Cumbernauld at 8:20pm
