It was a busy weekend of basketball as the SBC Playoff Semi-Finals took place across the country. Over 20 teams competed for a place at the Finals, which take place at Oriam on March 30th and 31st. A summary of the results from over the last few days, which see nine clubs being represented on Finals weekend, is below:
U14 Girls
Although the Semi-Finals were not played this weekend, Sony Centre Fury and West Lothian Wolves will compete for the SBC Cup on Finals day. The former beat City of Edinburgh 39-52 whilst the latter defeated Perth Phoenix 50-33.
U14 Boys
Inverness City will play Sony Centre Fury in the final of the SBC Cup after a 59-56 win over St Mirren. Fury progressed at the beginning of the month with a 84-49 win over City of Edinburgh.
U16 Women
Glasgow City will face Perth Phoenix in the Women’s Final as they overcame West Lothian Wolves and Lady Rocks respectively. City defeated Wolves 67-57 whilst Perth Phoenix recorded a slightly more comfortable 69-49 victory to progress to the final.
U16 Men
The Men’s Final will see West Lothian Wolves play Stirling Knights. The Wolves came out on top after an end-to-end game against St Mirren. Stirling Knights progressed with a 87-60 win over Grampian Flyers.
U18 Women
St Mirren will also be represented in the Women’s U18 Final after a 74-67 win over West Lothian Wolves. Their opponents will be Lady Rocks after their 62-48 victory Perth Phoenix.
U18 Men
The Men’s U18 Semi-Finals arguably produced the game of the weekend as Grampian Flyers came from behind to force overtime against St Mirren. The Paisley side restored their advantage however and won 72 – 65. Sony Centre Fury also progressed to the Final with a comfortable 85-45 win over Dunfermline Reign.
Senior Women
Lady Rocks ensured they would have two teams at the SBC Playoffs Finals as their Senior team edged out City of Edinburgh 56-53, earning them a place alongside their U18s. St Mirren’s Senior Women will be the third team from the club to feature at the Playoff Finals after they recorded a 73-64 win over Edinburgh University. Senior Men
The Senior Men’s Final will see Sony Centre Fury face off against City of Edinburgh. Fury defeated St Mirren 94 v 84 whilst City of Edinburgh got the better of Dunfermline Reign after some late drama in the other Semi-final, which ended 77-75.
