St Mirren West College Scotland are represented in both the Men’s and Women’s Finals this weekend, facing Sony Centre Fury and Lady Rocks respectively. Both Fury and Rocks won their respective leagues, whilst also recoreding recording the best offense and defence in their divisions.
Lady Rocks v St Mirren WCS
Lady Rocks received a bye in the Quarter Finals before facing Perth Phoenix in the Semi. The Rocks ran out 62-48 winners to book their place in Saturday’s Final.
St Mirren West College Scotland also received a bye in the Quarters after South Lanarkshire Colliers conceded the game. In the Semi-Final St Mirren faced a tough challenge from West Lothian Wolves, progressing 74.67
St Mirren’s Captain Laura Collins feels her team’s performances are improving at the right time:
“It’s been a tough season for us but the team has never gave up and we have had some good team performances in the last few games. We’ve been working hard on and off the court and have improved a lot since we last played rocks. It should be a good final.”
Sony Centre Fury v St Mirren WCS
Sony Centre Fury face St Mirren West College Scotland in the Men’s Final, with the teams finishing first and second in the SBC League.
Fury earned their place after comfortably progressing through the previous two rounds. Fury beat Glasgow Rens 79-32 before advancing to the Final with a 85-45 win over Dunfermline reign.
Fury’s Head Coach Keith Bunyan is thankful for everyone’s efforts which have led the team to this point:
“We have had a great season and reaching the playoff final is a fantastic way to end the season. As the head coach I would like to thank the players and their families for their tremendous support and commitment all season long and hope everyone enjoys a great day out and both teams put on a great game of basketball.”
ST Mirren earned their place in the Final with a dramatic overtime win against Grampian flyers. The side let a late lead slip as Grampian tied the game 62-62 on the buzzer, however they progressed with a strong performance in Overtime. In the previous round the team recorded a comfortable 87-53 win over West Lothian Wolves.
Head Coach Liam Stevenson is hoping his team make the most of their final opportunity to get some silverware:
“We are really looking forward to the challenge of our second final this year. We lost out on league to the team we are facing and came so close to a Scottish Cup also so we are raring to go and get our piece of silverware for the year. The team have had their ups and downs all year long with a lot of injuries and still fought their way to a second best record in Scotland so we are very proud of ourselves.
We just need to get our mentality ready for this match-up because we know they aren’t happy after that win we took from them last time we faced up so we will be ready for a grudge match of which I think will be a terrific pinnacle game for the season to end on. We’ve both been great all season and it could go either way but we have stayed hungry all year long to get to this point and I would back my lads over any team in the country, so I have confidence we can go into this match and come away with the win.”
