The SBC Scottish Cup tipped off with an exciting Round One, showcasing the talent across our U16, U18 and Senior Men’s, and Senior Women’s divisions.

U16 Men’s Competition

The U16 Men’s category witnessed several standout performances. Stirling Knights secured a commanding victory over Perth Phoenix, winning 89-40. The North Lanarkshire Chiefs followed suit, taking a 109-45 win over High Flyers. Grampian Ignite fell to Sony Centre Falkirk Fury, who triumphed 82-66. Meanwhile, Dundee Madsons claimed victory over Aberdeen Basketball Club with a 96-41 win. A standout performance from Boroughmuir Blaze saw them defeating Ayr Storm 120-46. Despite a great fourth quarter by Glasgow Rens, St Mirren narrowly edged them out 101-96 in one of the most closely fought battles of the round. Lastly, with a great team performance that saw all 12 players on the scoresheet, City of Edinburgh secured the win over Dunfermline Reign, 91-38.

With this win, City of Edinburgh join Stirling  Knights, North Lanarkshire Chiefs, Sony Centre Falkirk Fury, Dundee Madsons, Boroughmuir Blaze, St Mirren and West Lothian Wolves (bye) in the quarter-finals.

U18 Men’s Competition

The U18 Men’s matchups saw Boroughmuir Blaze take on Perth Phoenix, cruising to a 105-36 win, while Glasgow Rens fell in a nail-biter to St Mirren, who clinched the game 64-62 after winning the final quarter by 12-points. Sony Centre Falkirk Fury defeated City of Edinburgh Kings 95-68, and Stirling Knights secured a win over the North Lanarkshire Chiefs, 99-78. In the final game of the weekend, Aberdeen Basketball Club claimed a 100-67 victory over High Flyers to book their spot in the quarter-finals alongside Boroughmuir Blaze, St Mirren, Sony Centre Falkirk Fury, Sterling Knights, Madsons (bye) and Ayr Strom (bye).

Senior Men’s Competition

The Senior Men’s competition brought its own excitement, with Renfrew Rocks and Tayside Musketeers taking it down to the final seconds, where Rocks narrowly secured an 85-83 win in one of the closest matches of the round. St Mirren took on West Lothian Wolves, achieving a comfortable 102-58 win. Glasgow Devils defeated Highland Bears 89-57, while Boroughmuir Blaze secured a 120-52 win over North Lanarkshire Chiefs.

Renfrew Rocks, St Mirren, Glasgow Devils, Boroughmuir Blaze, Sony Centre Falkirk Fury (bye), Dunfermline Reign (bye), City of Edinburgh Kings (bye) and Aberdeen Arrows (bye) will now take to the court to compete to advance to the semis.

Senior Women’s Competition

In the Senior Women’s competition, Dundee Madsons defended their home court with an 81-52 win over Aberdeen Basketball Club. This victory advances them to the next stage, as they aim to carry this momentum forward.

Madsons were the only team so far to advance through playing in round one, with the Dunfermline Reign v City of Edinburgh game set to take place soon. The winner of that game will advance to the quartefianls alongside St Mirren, Sony Centre Falkirk Fury Boroughmuir Blaze, Edinburgh Blaze, West Lothian Wolves and Renfrew Rocks who all received byes to the quarter-finals.

Quarter-Final Preview

As we head into the quarter-finals, set to take place from 1st to 3rd November, the intensity is only set to rise. All competitions will feature high-stakes matchups, with teams looking to build on their strong Round One performances.

Additionally, the quarter-finals mark the start of the U16 and U18 Women’s Cup competitions. Fresh teams will step onto the court, bringing new energy and competition to the Scottish Cup, as young female talent from across the country competes for a shot at the title.
