basketballscotland welcomes the news that the City of Edinburgh Council has postponed its plans to drastically increase the cost of hiring school sports hall in the Capital until a full consultation and impact analysis is carried out.
Today’s decision will give the City of Edinburgh Council time to fully assess the impact that a rise in charges will have on some of Scotland’s most successful and diverse sports clubs, it will also provide basketball clubs in Edinburgh the opportunity to fully prepare and plan for the season ahead.
We would like to thank all of the clubs we have worked with in recent months on our campaign to bring about change in Edinburgh Council’s pricing model. We will continue to work with them to ensure that in January a reasonable solution is reached that works for clubs and allows them to continue to make basketball bigger and better in Edinburgh.
basketballscotland is aware that clubs in other local authorities may have, or will be subject to, similar pricing models by their local authority or leisure trust, and that it is an issue impacting the basketball community outside of Edinburgh. We still believe that this issue is of national significance and our team of Club Services Managers are here to support where possible.
Should you, or your club, have any concerns about pricing issues locally, please raise them with your regional Club Services Manager, details of which can be found HERE.
