Summer of Celebration – Round Up

These recent times have been challenging for everyone, especially those within the basketball and overall sports world. Whilst we were unable to play conventional basketball indoors this summer, it has been a great chance to celebrate some of the off-court activity that the Scottish basketball community have been doing.As our Summer of Celebration comes to a close why not take a look back at some of the success stories, we have highlighted that feature fantastic members of our community!

Gavin Menzies – Read about how Gavin Menzies from High Flyers Basketball Academy went above and beyond working alongside The Health Agency in Wester Hailes. He delivered emergency food and essential item packs to struggling families and vulnerable adults within his local community.

Dave Evans – Check out the great work basketballscotland’s Social Impact Officer, Dave Evans is doing for Food Train Scotland and Glasgow Food Train as part of their Befriending Service.

Meah – Every time Meah from Glenboig Primary steps onto a basketball court, it’s a success. The debilitating pain and extreme tiredness she suffers from doesn’t stop her from loving and being passionate about the sport.

Michelle Young & Zoe – Learn about how Michelle Young from Elite Basketball Skills helped young basketball players across Scotland during lockdown, which included helping nine-year-old Zoe gain massive amounts of confidence.

Ben – Ben’s story showcases how much his passion for the game drives him forward. Check out how he successfully campaigned for his primary school to enter into the basketballscotland Regional Development League and how he is preparing for when basketball resumes to play.

Shannon Torrie – Hard work pays off! Read about how the countless hours of volunteering Shannon Torrie put in at Tayside Musketeers led her to win the Dundee & Angus College Principal’s Choice Award 2020.
