There was no winding down ahead of the summer holidays for the kids involved in our Larbert High CashBack School of Basketball initiative as they took part in the 2018 RGK Wheelchairs Regional Junior Championships in Stirling.
Representing the Central region, the whole team was made up of Larbert High students and was a fantastic opportunity for all of the players to be a part of as they went head-to-head with other teams at the event.
Larbert High are the first Inclusive School of Basketball, combining wheelchair basketball and running basketball in the same sessions. We told the powerful story of S1 Wheelchair user Hussain earlier in the year and his development was clear to see at this year’s event.
Watch Hussain’s story here:
As well as Hussain and his classmates stepping up to the U19 competition, Larbert also had two Senior Pupils and School of Basketball graduates join us. Cameron and Kara both had little wheelchair experience before the competition and thoroughly enjoyed the day, they both showed great enthusiasm and improvement as the tournament went on.
From this Cameron and Kara have both expressed an interest in starting up an Inclusive Basketball lunchtime club at school open to all year groups and experience, the School are hoping to get this organised and running for after Christmas.
