Wheelchair basketball to feature in SDS Sports Day
basketballscotland have partnered with Scottish Disability sport (SDS) to deliver wheelchair basketball taster sessions at the SDS Amputee sports day later this month.
Taking place at Forrester High School on Saturday the 28th of September, the wheelchair basketball taster sessions will introduce new players to the fundamental skills including chair movement, passing, dribbling and shooting.
Amputees will be able to try a range of new sports throughout the day as coaches from tennis, handcycling, volleyball and powerlifting all attend to deliver sessions and offer expertise and guidance.
It’s been a successful year for wheelchair basketball in the UK, with GB Men’s Wheelchair team – which features six amputees – picking up gold at the 2019 European Championships in Poland last month.
Aside from the sports day, anyone interested in attending a wheelchair sessions are invited to basketballscotland’s wheelchair PickUp sessions, which take place every Wednesday night at the Crags in Edinburgh.
