Meet Your Regional Leads
Regional Leads have been appointed by basketballscotland to help support the schools and co-ordinate the number of games being played within their region.
NORTH
Holly Martin
Holly played for Highland Bears for 6 years and for her school team, before going on to play a bit of basketball at university. Since then, she has coached basketball at a camp in America and coached school basketball.
During the 2022/23 season, Holly coached a team to the Finals in Dundee and is back coaching the U15 girls and open girls at Culloden Academy this year.
“As I was involved in the Scottish Schools basketball as a pupil I am excited to be heavily involved this year as a teacher.”
EAST
Colin Ferguson
Colin started playing basketball in 1993 Marr College and Troon basketball club, where he enjoyed a varied playing career at school, club and university, winning a Scottish Cup winners medal in 2005, before injuries took their toll.
Since then, Colin has coached basketball at school and club level, and co-ordinated high school basketball competition in West Lothian. He is currently a U14 boys coach at Ayr Storm, Clifton Hall school, and Parkhead primary school.
“I was delighted to be offered the role of regional lead in the East of Scotland and I look forward to working with schools to facilitate high quality school basketball competition over the coming months.”
CENTRAL
Rebecca Lonsdale
Rebecca has played coached national league in Scotland since 2015, and in England before that. She is currently head of basketball at Larbert High School over seeing all extra-curricular basketball as well as their school of basketball. Rebecca has also been involved coaching the Scotland Regional Academies.
“School Basketball is a very important outlet for a lot of pupils and I’m looking forward to getting this year’s school competition up and running in the central area.”
WEST
Steven Morrison and Gary Taylor
Steven was brought up in the Hebrides of Scotland where he played basketball for his school team and began to coach some of the younger pupils. Gary was brought up in the North of the city of Glasgow where he began playing basketball. Both of them have been playing basketball since they were in school and have been coaching together since they started work as PE teachers in the same school in the Southside of Glasgow. They both continue to be involved in school and local league basketball in playing and non-playing roles.
“We plan to provide as many opportunities for young people to participate in basketball and would like to include as many schools as possible in the leagues and cups to raise the profile of basketball in the West of Scotland.”
