Intro
City of Edinburgh welcomes Boroughmuir Blaze to Portobello on Friday night as the Soho Wealth SBC Game of the Week covers the Edinburgh derby.
This will be the second championship meeting between the pair this season, with City of Edinburgh recording a 71-59 win at The Crags back in October.
The teams
City of Edinburgh currently sit 5th in the Senior Men’s Division with a record of 7-3. The team’s strong start to the season was dented by losses to Sony Centre Fury and St Mirren late last year, which they will be hoping to recover from as they look to climb the table.
Visitors Boroughmuir Blaze sit one place above Kings in fourth having played one more game. Blaze have picked up six straight wins in the Championship since losing to Kings, including wins over St Mirren and Dunfermline Reign, to improve their record to 7-4. Blaze will also have one eye on next weekend’s SBC Scottish Cup Final, where they face St Mirren at Lagoon.
From the Coaches
Blaze’s Head Coach, Simon Turner, acknowledges the strength of the Kings side:
“We’ve enjoyed the challenge of having to play our best on the road at Reign and Saints recently but Kings at Portobello is an even bigger opportunity to test ourselves. Kings have great control of their offense, plus Ali and Fin are two of the best stoppers in the league at their position. Everyone knows Konrad can get buckets plus they have team-first guys like Matt, Neil and Niall to go with good young players. We’ll have to use all our depth and togetherness to play at the level this game will require.
“It’s good for the league to have smart ex-players like Paddy and Garreth move into coaching. I played against Paddy many times and then Garreth too so it’s great to compete against them again. I never got within 20 points of them when we played so hopefully we’ll be a little better this week.”
