Nation Academy to compete in Home Nations tournament

basketballscotland’s National Academy is set to participate in a new Home Nations tournament later this year.

England, Scotland and Wales will all enter teams into the tournament, with games taking place over two days in December. The event will see two age groups, U16 and U18, playing against English and Welsh opposition.

The event is the first action of the 2019/20 international season as basketballscotland begins preparations for the U16 2020 European Championships. The U18 programme will also gain international exposure during the summer of 2020 and both age groups will also look to compete in several games against SBC competition throughout the year.

Barry Lang, basketballscotland’s Head of Basketball, is looking forward to seeing the young Scottish players competing with the other Home Nations:

“It’s great that the Home Nations have agreed to collaborate on this upcoming event. The competition will allow SCO players to challenge their Welsh and English peers. GBR Basketball coaches will also be able to scout Home Nation domestic talent in the same environment, prior to announcing squads for the FIBA tournaments in the summer.”

As part of the preparations, recruitment forms for players and staff have been emailed to all member clubs. Coaches are encouraged to contact their club administrators.
