University of Edinburgh and Caledonia Pride player Pollyanna Storie has been selected for GB Under 18 Women’s final roster ahead of the 2019 European Championships.

With the tournament taking place in Macedonia from the 5th to 13th of July, Pollyanna and the squad will fly to Greece this weekend for two preparation games against their hosts. The team have spent the last few weeks in Manchester preparing at the National Basketball Performance Centre.

The GB side will then have a packed schedule in Skopje, with Netherlands Sweden, Ukraine, Albania and Luxemburg all waiting in Group D.

The GB side travelling to Greece is a young one, with Pollyanna one of seven players in the roster to make the step up from playing for GB Under 16s last year. Only two of the squad represented GB Under 18s last summer.

Head Coach Len Busch, who led Sevenoak Suns to a double last season, is confident the team can handle the progression:

“The ones who played last year have grown and developed and are different from who they were last year. The young ones from the U16 team will be stepping up to a higher level of basketball that they are ready for. As this is a new team, our aim is to be the best team we can be and represent GB well. Our goal is to play hard, stay together and get better each time we step on the floor.”

Updates on the team’s progress will be available through basketballscotland’s social channels in the coming weeks.
