Reffin’ Brilliant course returns

basketballscotland and Scottish Student Sport have continued their partnership to deliver another Reffin’ Brilliant course for the 19/20 season.

The upcoming course marks the third year of the programme for basketball officials, as Scottish Student Sport work closely with Scottish governing bodies to deliver introductory officiating courses specifically designed – and heavily subsidised – for students.

Perth College will host the course this weekend, 12th and 13th of October, as students from across Scotland gather to work towards their Level 1 Referee award. The course is aimed at students wishing to officiate School and University Leagues, Youth National Leagues or Local League games and teaches the basic rules, signals and mechanics of basketball officiating.

Attendees will be given a basketballscotland t-shirt, whistle, relevant materials and a FIBA rule book. The course acts as a great first stepping stone into officiating for any student looking to get involved or earn some extra income.

basketballscotland’s Competitions and Officiating Manager, Graham Shaw, was full of praise for the course:

“The course has been massively successful over the last few years and it has opened the door for students to go on to referee in our National League and even National Finals. It’s a great opportunity for younger referees to take their first step into officiating.”

Places are still available on the course and can be booked for just £25 here.
