Regional development leagues

One of the busiest and most exciting months of the season as basketballscotland’s Regional Development Leagues took centre stage for the first time this season with U10, U12’s and U14 boys and girls competing over the weekend.

The opening Saturday saw 22 teams from Dundee, Grampian and Inverness come together for the U10’s and U12’s RDL’s to experience playing in game situations and develop their skills as well as decision making. Sunday added another 18 teams competing in Beach Leisure Centre in the first RDL’s of the season, this time for the U14’s. Teams from Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness created a great atmosphere on the day and support by all the parents, referees and volunteers made it a fantastic day of energetic and exciting basketball.

The same weekend also saw 8 new referees complete their Level 1 qualification where they were given an opportunity to develop their game management skills.This will be a great addition to the North of Scotland Basketball Crew in the future.

Last weekend saw the U16 teams competing in the NOS Development League.

9 Boys teams and 6 girls teams stepped on the court for some extra basketball. This years league consists of 16 teams and will create extra opportunities for U16 boys and girls to play completive basketball in North. League is supported by the Basketball Crew and all the clubs in North. More information on the league can be found here.

Overall, close to 50 teams competed in RDL’s this month, extra 8 referees completed their Level 1 Qualification, taking the North East of Scotland Basketball Crew to 35 referees and table officials who help to run the league monthly.

Next U10’s and U12’s RDL dates – 7th of October (run in 2 divisions across Laurencekirk and Ellon)

Next U14’s RDL’s – 8th of October – Beach Leisure Centre 10:00 – 18:00

U16 NOS League – 21st of October  – Beach Leisure Centre 10:00 – 18:00
