For this week’s SBC Game of the Week we will be in Dunfermline to watch Dunfermline Reign play host to Boroughmuir Blaze in the first round of the 2018 SBC Playoffs.

As Blaze and Reign finished 4th and 5th respectively in the SBC league, they will face each other in the first round of the Playoffs to decide which team will continue on to the semifinals.

After finishing in 4th place with a 13-5 record and making the finals of the SBC Cup, Blaze were one of the main teams to reckon during the season. Blaze are an efficient team on both sides of the floor with a number of players who can shoot the ball from deep.

We caught up with Blaze captain, Eoghann Dover to hear his thoughts ahead of the game;

Really excited for the game. It should be really tense. We’re obviously disappointed it cant be played at our venue due to some facility issues but we’re looking forward to the game and expecting a lively crowd in the Reign Dome. Both teams like to play fast and like to push the tempo so it should be a shootout, their results have dipped a bit in recent weeks compared to how they started the season and we’re coming in after playing some of our best basketball so far this season, so we’re feeling confident but we know its anyone’s game. We really like how Reign play and how they’ve been building their team over the past few seasons and it should be a great game.
Reign finished the season with a 12-6 record and were one of the surprise teams at the beginning of the season after they came away with a result against a number of the top teams in the league. Reign were one of the best teams at putting the ball in the basket last season and are extremely effective when they get out on the fastbreak.
We caught up with Reign captain, Kieran Lynch how he felt about their matchup with Blaze and what the focus would be going into the game;
We are looking forward to facing a tough Blaze team who play a similar style to ourselves. They will look to run the ball and create mismatches if they can. Our game plan is set and as long as we execute we feel we can come away with the win. We hope to pack out St Columbas Hig and have a great atmosphere for the game which will be a fast-paced run-and-gun affair.
Reign will play host to Blaze on Friday the 9th of March at 8.15pm at St. Columbus High School in Dunfermline.
