Soho Wealth SBC Senior Men’s Round Up
Sony Centre Fury claimed the 2019/20 Soho Wealth SBC Senior Men’s Division title over the weekend after St Mirren fell to Dunfermline Reign on Saturday afternoon.
Fury and St Mirren went into the weekend tied on a record of 12-2, with the head-to-head falling in Fury’s Favour. The Grangemouth-based side picked up a 96-75 win over City of Edinburgh on Friday night in basketballscotland’s Game of the Week, putting the pressure on to the Paisley-based side to match their result.
St Mirren travelled to St Columba’s the following day knowing a win was required to take the race for the title to the final weekend. Reign, the defending champions, picked up a 91-70 win, a result that secured the title for Fury. St Mirren travel through to Edinburgh on Saturday, facing Edinburgh Lions in their final game with the chance to cement second place ahead of the playoffs.
Glasgow University picked up a 60-58 win over Boroughmuir Blaze, a win that strengthens their chances of securing a playoff spot. The loss was Boroughmuir’s first of 2020, however the side have already confirmed fourth place and a home game against City of Edinburgh in the playoff quarter final.
In the division’s fourth game of the weekend, Perth Phoenix guaranteed their place in the 2020 playoffs with a 62-47 win over Ayrshire Tornadoes. Tornadoes now need to pick up wins in their two remaining fixtures to have any chance of grabbing the final playoff spot and avoiding the end of season promotion/relegation playoff.
