Strathclyde Masters returns for 7th year

Strathclyde Masters Basketball Club are hosting their 7th International Tournament this March as 18 teams from across the UK and Ireland travel to the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley.

Taking place from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th, the teams – which are travelling from several cities and towns including Aberdeen, Oxford and Galway –  will compete in three categories: Over 60 Men, Over 50 Men and Over 45 Women.

Masters basketball has continued to grow in popularity in recent years with three different categories competing at the  2019 FIMBA World Maxibasketball Championships in Espoo, Finland. USA, Italy and Ukraine were the nations who collected the respective gold medals at the tournament.

The Strathclyde Masters event  will be looking to build on the popularity of masters basketball as the tournament returns for a seventh year. Strathclyde Sixers are looking to retain their Over 60’s title for the fifth time in a row, whilst Galway return to defend their Over 50’s title and Strathclyde Ladies have aim to become two-time Over 45 champions.

Strathclyde Masters’ Treasurer, Charles Woods, is looking forward to a busy weekend of basketball in Paisley:

“Strathclyde Masters Basketball Club are delighted to be hosting their 7th International Basketball Tournament. With 18 teams – 5 Scottish, 9 English and 4 Irish – and 32 games over the weekend it is the biggest basketball tournament held in Scotland each year. It is always a very competitive tournament, so come along and watch some exciting basketball being played over the weekend.”
