Boroughmuir Blaze v Sony Centre Fury

Soho Wealth SBC Senior Men

Friday 28th February, 8:20pm

The Crags

Intro

Boroughmuir Blaze host Sony centre Fury as the SBC Scottish Cup winners face the SBC League winners in the final game of the regular season.

The game is the third meeting between the sides, with both teams making the most of the home advantage in the previous meetings. Fury picked up a 79-62 League win in Grangemouth back in September, before Blaze recorded a 81-78 win in the Cup game at Crags the following month.

The teams

Sony Centre Fury head into the game off the back of claiming the Soho Wealth SBC League title last weekend. The team will be hoping to head into the playoffs on a high, having only lost two league games throughout 19/20.

Boroughmuir Blaze picked up their first loss of 2020 last weekend, having picked up the Scottish Cup in January as part of a win streak which began back in October. Blaze’s league position is already confirmed, with the team facing City of Edinburgh in the first round of the Soho Wealth SBC playoffs.

From the Clubs

Blaze’s Simon Turner is looking forward to testing his team ahead of March’s playoff campaign:

“We really enjoy playing against Fury and this game should be no different. They deserve to have won the league so this game will be a great way of testing ourselves against the number 1 team in the country. We’re focused on bringing energy and joy to the game. Can’t wait.”

John Bunyan intends to use the game as an opportunity to learn more about Blaze ahead of a potential playoff clash next month:

“There is a potential for Blaze and ourselves to meet in the Play-Off Semi-Finals when the stakes will be quite a bit higher than this game. Nevertheless a clash between the season Scottish League Champions and the Scottish Cup winners makes for an intriguing game. Blaze like us are strong in the guard spot , have a strong perimeter threat and decent size. The teams have the deepest benches in the league and I am sure like me, Simon will see the game as a further opportunity to evaluate each other’s strengths and weaknesses”
