Summer of Celebration – Ben

Summer of Celebration: Ben

12-year-old Ben from Glenboig Primary in Coatbridge has already been doing a lot for Scottish basketball at his young age.

Ben has become more confident since playing basketball as evidenced by successfully campaigning for his school to introduce basketball into their PE curriculum. This campaign led Glenboig Primary to compete in the basketballscotland Regional Development League.

His on-court skills are also constantly improving due to his desire to get better every day by advancing his skills. His passion for the game has enabled him to develop a strong work ethic both on and off the court. The work rate and desire he showcases through basketball can be transferred into other areas of his life.

On top of this, he has been working hard during lockdown by learning new skills and practicing basketball most days via Zoom classes with both Michelle Young at Elite Basketball Skills and Josh McAlpine at Glasgow Rocks Juniors.

His general stamina and fitness is improving, as he is determined to be ready for the new season when it begins. This display of commitment and dedication to the game is what we love to see, and we encourage other players to follow suit.

Ben’s mum, Sally, summarised what it means to her to see her son thrive through basketball:

As a parent, I love to watch him being active, whilst having fun with his friends and wee sister, Zoe. It’s great to see his confidence grow. Nothing beats seeing his wee face when he gets the ball in the hoop. Win or lose, he always has fun during games which is the most important thing to me.”

basketballscotland would once again like to thank its community for coming together during these difficult times. We hope you remain happy, healthy, safe and well as the lockdown restrictions begin to ease up during the next week or so.
