Summer Slam 2024 | Need to know

The Summer Slam is an action-packed end of season bonanza of basketball. We will celebrate legends of the game, enjoy the skills of the finest players in Scotland’s national competition and marvel at the pace and excitement of the abbreviated form of basketball courtesy of an international 3×3 competition.

All of this will take place at PlaySport on Saturday 8th June

The on court action begins with a 3×3 tournament. Doors open at 10:30, with the first game starting at 11:00. The final game due to conclude about 15:30.

Meanwhile, from 12:30 a Hall of Fame lunch will take place in the Fanzone.

There will be a break in the 3×3 action at 14:30 for the official Hall of Fame ceremony on the court. The final 3×3 game will be followed by a short break before the Scottish Basketball Championships’ (SBC) finest players take to the court for the Minerva Innovation Group All Star Game. It tips off at 16:00.

What is 3×3?

Learn about the differences between the 3×3 and 5v5 games from the Scotland 2022 Commonwealth Games Qualifiers teams.

Who is playing?

Scotland will be competing against England, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland in a round robin competition where everybody plays everybody once.

What else?

In order to give the players some recovery time, we will also feature a wheelchair exhibition game. To further add to the spectacle, each men’s team must enter one player into the Slam Dunk competition. Each female team must enter someone in the 3 point contest.

Hall of Fame

After its creation in 2022, the Scottish Basketball Hall of Fame is welcoming another 20 players, coaches and officials. These legends will be recognised at a lunch in the Fanzone at PlaySport followed by a presentation on the court before the final game of the 3×3 tournament.

Minerva Innovation Group All Star Game

Each team from the SBC has been asked to nominate a couple of players. Team mates throughout the season, they will face off against each other in the All Star Game. Celebrating the inclusive nature of the game each quarter will see a different set up for each team. Alongside celebrating the victorious team, we will also recognise a Minerva Innovation Group MVP.
