U16 National Team Assistants & Team Managers Appointed

basketballscotland and the newly appointed U16 Head Coaches, Darryl Wood and Donnie MacDonald, are pleased to announce that our Assistant Coaches and Team Managers for the U16 Men & Women have been added to the staff team.

Cory McCabe will assist Coach Wood on court, and Jamie Leese will be Team Manager for the U16 Men.

Cory on his appoint said “Whether it’s playing or coaching, representing your country means an awful lot. I can’t wait to return to the staff, and get our preparations for this summer’s Euros underway. We had a solid finish to last year’s tournament, so hopefully this gives us a platform to build on and improve this time around.”

Jamie stated “I’m extremely proud to be involved with the U16 Men’s Youth National Team and to work as part of Darryl’s Management Team is very exciting.  The role comes with a lot of responsibility outwith the day to day basketball and I’ll strive to do it to the best of my ability by supporting the coaching staff, players, parents & basketballscotland as and where required.”

Callum Knox will assist Coach MacDonald on court, and Amy Kirkhouse will be Team Manager for the U16 Women.

Callum mentioned “I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to Coach with the U16 Women’s Youth National Team. Last year, we saw a vast improvement in the group of players from training camp in December to competition in July. I am very excited to be a part of the process once more.”

Amy highlighted “I am really looking forward to being part of the Scotland U16 Women’s programme this year. I love working with National Teams in this role and it is great to have the opportunity to work with Donnie and Callum again this year. It is an honour to represent Scotland in any role and I’m excited about the opportunity to do this again with this year’s group of players and staff.”

Head of Basketball Barry Lang said “The team behind the team is essential to a successful programme. We’re delighted to have such a strong staff in place for this seasons international programme. Darryl and Donnie have intimated that they’ll offer further learning opportunities to a select group of coaches, from the application process. This will allow them to gain valuable experience in our high performance training environments, although these support staff will not travel to competition. SBC Clubs will be engaged this week to support us in compiling a depth chart of U16 players and our programmes will commence with an invitational training camp in late December.”
