It is with regret that basketballscotland must delay the initial launch of the Regional Academy Programme until Summer 2018.

basketballscotland had hoped to have a fully resourced coaching team in place for each of the Academies in good time for the beginning of the programme on 24/25th February.

Recruitment of the Head and Support Coaches started in November which we thought would be enough time to engage the right people to support the delivery of the Regional Academies.

Unfortunately this has not been possible and in order to protect the integrity of the programme to ensure that we can provide the best experience for the players involved, it is in their best interests to delay the launch until we are able to fully resource the Academies with the appropriate personnel to deliver a worthwhile and beneficial programme to every participant.

What is really positive is the level of engagement from club coaches, parents and players in the nominations process. We have received in excess of 350 nominations for spots within the Regional Academy Programme.

The team at basketballscotland will be working hard in the coming weeks to build the right coaching teams around the players to ensure that their engagement with this new programme, is a positive one.

We apologise at this time for the delay, but it is important that when the programme does go live, it is robust and provides the best possible experience for each player. basketballscotland have engaged with all of the nominated players, their parents and their coaches to ensure they are aware of this delay.

Should you have any further questions, we will be hosting a live question and answer on our Facebook page with Derek O’Riordan, Head of Education and Development on Thursday 15th February at 4pm.
