Wood & MacDonald to Lead U16s at Euros

Following the announcement by FIBA that next summer’s European Championships Division C will be held in Albania (U16 Men) and Moldova (U16 Women), basketballscotland are proud to unveil our Head Coaches for our programmes. Darryl Wood, will lead the U16 Men and Donnie MacDonald will lead the U16 Women.

Coach Wood said “I am delighted to have been appointed the U16 Men’s Head Coach. Representing your country is special! I can’t wait to start working with the staff and players hoping to create the best environment we can to challenge everyone and push the programme forward. I look forward to the challenges ahead and meeting the players at the Christmas camp.”

Coach MacDonald stated “I am delighted and very honoured to be given the opportunity to work with the Scotland U16 Women’s National Team once again. We made great progress with a very young squad last year and we have the potential to see a number of those players returning this year, but it won’t be easy for them as there are many players who were not involved last year who are having strong domestic seasons. Returning to both Copenhagen and Moldova gives us a level of familiarity in our competition which will hopefully allow our performance to reach a higher level this year.”

basketballscotland Head of Basketball, Barry Lang mentioned “We have had the most successful recruitment campaign in over 5 years, and we’re delighted to appoint two highly motivated, dedicated and experienced Scottish Coaches to lead our youth programmes. Both Darryl and Donnie have had multiple campaigns in European Competition and currently coach in the BBL and WBBL, for Glasgow Rocks and Caledonia Pride respectively. Over the weekend they will be finalising their staff, so further announcements will follow early next week.”
